Growing up, Michael Baylis spent many weekends watching cartoons and afternoons doing homework in the office of his mother Andrella Kenner’s aerospace and IT company, CI² Aviation. After graduating from Tennessee State and working at a consulting job in Chicago for five years, he met up one week with his mother in Washington, D.C., where both were on business trips. On a whim, he ended up in one of her meetings.

“I was blown away,” Baylis said. “She was leading the conversation with about five other gentlemen in the room. She was the only woman, talking about FAA contracts. I had never seen my mother in that light.”

He also had never been pressured by her to join the company she founded in 1993, but he was intrigued. After getting his mother’s blessing, Baylis moved to D.C. in 2014 and became a research analyst for CI² Aviation. In 2015, he started business school part-time at Georgetown University.
